Putumayo Kids Presents Cowboy Playground, The latest toe-tapping release from Putumayo Kids' acclaimed Playground series. 

We recently received this new CD from Putumayo Kids, Cowboy Playground, set to release on May 22, 2012.  My three year old is a huge fan of cowboys. He was excited when he seen the cover of the CD. 

We had a lot of fun dancing to the songs. My son thought it was the perfect time to wear his favorite cowboy hat and pretend he was heading out West. This CD was one that the whole family enjoyed. I even caught my hubby singing along with a few of the songs. We were happy to hear some familiar songs such as Home on the Range, Happy Trails, and I'm An Old Cow Hand. 

"The legend and lore of the Wild West holds a strong allure for kids and grown-ups alike. Whether it conjures up images of cowboys riding ponies across the wide-open range or singing songs by the campfire, music of the old West represents a great American tradition that holds a timeless appeal.

Putumayo Kids captures the freedom of the cowpoke’s life with Cowboy Playground, a galloping collection of songs by artists such as Western music stalwarts Riders in the Sky and Don Edwards.  Children’s cowboy music star Buck Howdy sings his funny tall tale tune “Pecos Bill” while classics including “Home on the Range” (recorded just for this release by Oregon children’s artist Victor Johnson), “Whoopie Ti Yi Yo” (performed by Canadian artist-rancher Ian Tyson) and “Don’t Fence Me In” ( jazzily arranged for Putumayo Kids by Seattle kids’ artist Johnny Bregar) are familiar even to city slickers. At the end of the day, as  millions of stars twinkle in the sky, the Dale Evans-inspired band Cowboy Envy wishes everyone “Happy Trails.""

Cowboy Playground has twelve tracks and comes with a 24-page booklet featuring archival photos from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming.

Radio Jungle by the Pop Ups - Children's CD Reveiw and Giveaway

My family was recently introduced to the music of The Pop Ups. We had never heard of them before, man were we missing out! Let me just say that my son is a BIG fan now! Their newest CD, Radio Jungle, has quickly become part of our afternoon playtime music selection.

There are eleven songs on this CD and my kids like them all. It's entertaining and educational at the same time. The songs on this album are fun and catchy. These are the kind of songs that make you want to interact and sing along. I've found myself and my older children singing along a number of times.

Although my kids dance to each song, I especially love to watch my son try to do the dance they sing about in the song "the bat". I tried to get him on video doing it but he always gets shy and stops doing it. It is TOO CUTE! Another favorite of ours is math rock. I love that he is learning to count while having fun listening to the song! Having fun always makes learning so much easier.

This Brooklyn based musical duo (Jason Rabinowitz and Jacob Stein) have one CD out already, Outside Voices, as well as a stage show “PASTA: A Pop Ups Puppet Musical." Radio Jungle, their Second Collection of Indie Rock Gems, is set to be released on April 3rd. They are scheduling a spring and summer tour so be sure to check out their show dates.

The Pop Ups have two NYC performances soon: Symphony Space in Manhattan on March 31st, and Littlefields Brooklyn on April 15th.

I Am Happy! with Sukey Molloy Children's CD ~ Review and Giveaway

 

My son is super excited to add the "I Am Happy! with Sukey Molloy" CD to his collection! He loves the fun and silly songs on this CD. We have fun singing along with Sukey Molloy. My little guy loves to try to act out the songs. It's so cute! One of his favorite songs on this CD is I Put My Scarf on my Head. He had me play it over and over since he was having so much fun. This morning he was walking around singing Cuckoo Bird, another one of his favorites. We highly recommend this CD! It's so much fun to listen to.

La Bella Stella - Celebrate Earth Children's CD ~ Review and Giveaway!

All of my children really love music. We have been slowly adding to our collection of children's music. We are very happy that La Bella Stella is now a part of that collection! This CD is set to be released by Recess Music on March 27th. This is the fifth in its "Celebration Earth" series of CDs. It is targeted at children ages 4 - 11. It has 15 tracks that will teach your children about the Universe. 

My younger children enjoyed this CD almost (if not more than) as much as my older one did. I like that the music allows for calm playing while listening to it. My sons favorite songs are Aurora Broealis, Man in the Moon and Safe at Home. The kids liked this CD enough they ask to take it with us when we leave. On our last outing my son reminded me to bring the CD with me and to bring it back in the house when we got back. My youngest likes to try to dance and sing to all the songs.

I look forward to using this CD to help introduce new things to my little ones as the grow older (both under 4 right now). This will be a good addition when I start homeschooling my son in preschool. I'm glad to have it in our growing music collection! We are looking forward to checking out the other CDs in this series!

Farmer Jason Nature Jams ~ Review and Giveaway

We were recently given the opportunity to review the Farmer Jason and Buddies Nature Jams CD. My kids were very excited to listen to this new CD.

What is Nature Jams?

Nature Jams is a high-value, kid-friendly gift package of 16 original songs, 4 music videos and a colorful 20-page booklet created by über designer Brad Talbott.  The song styles range from rock and roll anthems to sea shanties, jazz to folk. Farmer Jason talks with his musical guests about taking hikes, going canoeing, skating and even spelunking. The idea is to get kids excited about the big world around them, observing various animals (“Meadowlark in Central Park,” “Manatee,” and “Dison the Bison”), learning about cool places around the world and simply enjoying nature. “The point is to motivate kids to get outside and excite their curiosity without being preachy,” says Jason. “We tried to make these songs energetic, fun and exciting.”

My kids LOVED this CD set! They were dancing around and trying to sing along with the words. My son loves animals so this was perfect for him. Listening to the songs about the various animals lead to conversations about them and a search for more information. His favorite song is "Meadowlark in Central Park". There is also a DVD with 4 fun music videos. The kids enjoy watching Farmer Jason and the kids having fun outdoors in the videos.

This CD has been played at least once a day since we received it! I am so happy to build my children's music collection with great music like this. It really makes them want to get up and move.
